Michigan notary public is an unbiased witness commissioned by the Michigan Secretary of State. Generally they are a witness to the signature of documents. When a notary public notarizes a document, it is showing that the person whose signature is entered on the document appeared before the notary, had proof of his/her identity, and personally signed the document.

A Michigan notary public is not allowed to perform marriage ceremonies.

According to the Secretary of State web site there are approximately 118,026 notaries public commissioned in the State of Michigan. Most commissioned notaries public generally work for a company that employs them. The notaries public listed throughout our pages are specialized in their area. We would call them a "Mobile Notary Public". Meaning that they would travel to a predetermined location between the mobile notary public and yourself.

Since this is a specialized field each mobile notary public has their own set fees for their services that they charge. A Michigan notary public may not charge more than $10.00 for performing a notarial act. They are allowed to charge any negotiated fee for traveling to the predetermined location.

Another title given to a notary public is a Notary Signing Agent.  This is a title given to a notary public by a private company. If the notary public has received this title, it means that they have passed a test demonstrating advanced knowledge of the documents that they notarize.  This mostly covers real estate documents.
